More About STIR/SHAKEN
The SHAKEN (Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) caller authentication framework is touted as a major advancement in mitigating unwanted robocalls and caller ID spoofing. Developed to efficiently implement the IETF's STIR (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) standards, SHAKEN defines a signature to verify the calling number and specifies how it is transported in SIP "on the wire." The SHAKEN framework provides guidance for service providers to implement STIR.
The FCC (Federal Communications Commission), CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) and OFCOM (Office of Communications) in the UK endorse STIR/SHAKEN with implementation deadlines targeted for May 2019 in the U.S. and March 2019 in Canada.
As a neutral information services provider, market leader of caller ID services and co-author of caller authentication standards, Neustar can help you deliver trusted call experiences with these Caller Intelligence solutions:
- Neustar Robocall Mitigation combines behavioral analytics with caller and network intelligence to help accurately identify illegal robocalls, caller ID spoofers and call scammers.
